Allow some time to connect

Your photographer will be up-close and personal in all elements of your wedding day, so you’ll want to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible in their presence. Allowing some time for a pre-wedding photo shoot, a coffee or even just a couple of phone calls before the big day will go a long way towards helping this happen. It will also naturally allow the photographer to learn more about you as a couple and what you envision for your wedding photography.

 

 

Be clear about your wants and needs

During these early meetings, be as clear as possible about what you’ll want and need from your photographer on the day. Bring examples of wedding shots you love and make a list of specific shots you definitely want, whether it be grandma’s pendant or the dip in the first dance. Also make sure you write up a contract together that both parties are happy with.

 

Ask what your photographer needs

Your wedding photographer should be completely self-sufficient and independent, but it’s always nice when the couple takes time to consider if you need anything to make the job go smoothly. Something as simple as having a secure room at the venue to store your kit or possible break times to grab a bite to eat will make all the difference to us.

 

 

Be honest and upfront

Communication between the couple and their photographer is key from the start of the process to the end. If there’s work in the portfolio that you are especially keen on, tell us and we’ll focus more on that style. If you have angles that you prefer on yourselves, tell us and we’ll shoot more from those. You’re the boss so don’t be afraid to tell us what you think.

When I feel the couple trusts me as a professional and an artist it makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. And a happy photographer makes for stunning wedding photos.
